Find Where the Water Comes From

Learn to identify moisture coming from people and their activities, outdoor air, building materials, and unexpected events or uses.

Count the Moisture Load

Understand why moisture needs to be considered as a real building load, with clear assumptions about occupancy, climate, construction moisture, and other sources.

Decide What Takes the Water Out

Learn why having the right temperature does not automatically mean the moisture is right, and why cooling equipment should not simply be assumed to handle every moisture condition.

About Stick Thirty-Four — The Sweat

Water can enter a building in more ways than people realize. Stick Thirty-Four focuses on The Sweat — the water inside the building and the question of what will take it back out. Moisture can come from people, outdoor air, wet construction materials, and events or uses that were never planned for.  You’ll learn why the temperature and moisture questions are not the same. A thermostat can reach the desired temperature while the building is still carrying more moisture than intended.   The goal is to ask four simple questions: Where is the water coming from? How much is arriving? What is taking it back out? And does that still happen when the cooling equipment is barely running?
